VMware Cloud Foundation managed service for high performance and lower cost

In the initial days of the cloud, CIOs and the enterprises they serve were quick to see its transformative power. The cloud’s magic, its ability to automate time-consuming and resource-intensive tasks while offering unprecedented and virtually unlimited compute and storage resources, quickly resulted in a cloud-first movement that resulted in the now ubiquitous hyperscale environments.

In today’s rapidly changing landscape, CIOs are far more circumspect. Businesses of all sizes and across industries – among them organizations in the energy, government, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail arenas – face a litany of challenges, among them demands for greater business agility, the need for new application-enabled services, and far more stringent compliance and data governance, sovereignty, and security requirements.

In light of these challenges, the hyperscalers – while still offering the speed and elasticity enterprises need – lack the controls that workloads with sensitive, mission-critical data demand. As a result of such shortfalls and the foundational shift in how data control is viewed today, the software-defined Infrastructure-as-a-Service, in conjunction with a private cloud, is the natural choice.

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) addresses these realities head-on, providing CIOs and data-driven enterprises with the speed and flexibility of the public cloud and the control of a tightly managed on-premises infrastructure. VCF provides organizations with everything they need to excel in the cloud – including public, private, and hybrid cloud approaches – and enables enterprises to draw on the VMware by Broadcom technologies they know and love, including Aria, vSAN, NSX, and Tanzu, all in one seamless stack.

Importantly, in addition to being available as a self-service and managed offering, VCF is also available as a fully managed service offered through a global network of fully vetted, highly qualified, and experienced VMware Cloud Services Providers (VCSPs). These stalwarts enable enterprises to quickly migrate to a powerful, cost-effective, and future-proof software-defined infrastructure that delivers maximum flexibility and performance while radically simplifying IT operations and eliminating the tasks and complexities of DIY deployment.

Recently, Broadcom commissioned Principled Technologies to survey four enterprises, representing a cross-section of industries and organizations of different sizes, that engaged VCSPs to guide them on their cloud journey, migration, and implementation of VCF. All benefited from their VCSP’s proven track record, providing organizations with a worry-free onramp to success in the cloud. This included extensive experience using VCF to address each organization’s unique infrastructure needs, significant customization capabilities, and deep industry-specific expertise on workflows, business processes, and compliance and regulatory requirements.

Principled Technologies’ analysis, detailed in the corresponding white paper “Private cloud delivered: The business value of VMware Cloud Foundation as a managed service,” reveals the many benefits of working with a trusted VCSP partner. The enterprises surveyed gained significant value from working with a VCSP, with benefits reflecting not only the fundamental improvements VCF makes possible, but also the advantages of working with a skilled and experienced technology provider over a DIY approach.

All the companies surveyed achieved gains in five fundamental areas, including:

  • Gains and efficiency with savings in total cost of ownership
  • Fast implementations and time-to-value
  • The immediate acquisition of talent and required skillsets
  • A dramatic reduction in technical debt
  • Innovation that future-proofs and empowers the organization for IT change

Results reveal the benefits of working with a trusted cloud service provider partner

Principled Technologies’ analysis also revealed that the business value of working with a VCSP when using VCF to modernize enterprise architecture is significant. Findings pointed to performance gains and cost savings across the board. Some of these included:

  • Enterprises achieved infrastructure cost savings of up to 40% when working with a VCSP
  • Enterprises boosted operational efficiency and reduced their data center footprints by up to 80% when working with a VCSP
  • Enterprises that worked with a VCSP began using and generating value from VCF in 1/4 of the time of organizations that implemented and deployed it themselves
  • Organizations that turned to a VCSP dramatically reduced spending on IT skills and personnel, saving an average of $45,000 on a team of three people and immediately gained access to a deep bench of IT experts
  • In all cases, the enterprises analyzed shifted from a CAPEX approach to a more predictable OPEX model in a time when the cost of capital is high

CIOs and IT leaders can learn more about the VCF and cloud journeys of CarbonHelix, Fiduciary Trust Company, and kubus IT by downloading “Private cloud delivered: The business value of VMware Cloud Foundation as a managed service.” CIOs can also find a VCSP ideally qualified to address their needs by visiting Broadband’s Partner Locator.
