Meter Command: the modern network interface

The original promise of software was to empower users to program existing apps or create what they need on the fly. However, applications today feel more rigid than ever, increasing in complexity and deviating from the principles they started with. This rigidity is even more pronounced in infrastructure and networking.

Infrastructure and networking, in particular, have been command-line interface (CLI) driven for decades. The last major change in networking software was moving from CLI to cloud management via dashboards, sacrificing precision for accessibility along the way. Since then, there haven’t been tangible ways for users to directly experience how infrastructure improved. This isn’t just a problem in networking; it’s a challenge across all software.

Software isn’t soft anymore. Meter is working to change that.

Meter is an internet infrastructure company that spent the last decade re-engineering the entire networking stack from the ground up to provide everything an IT team needs––hardware, software, deployment, and management––to run, manage, and scale internet infrastructure for a business, at a fixed monthly rate. Their modern architecture is consistent, accessible, and interconnected across the entire stack, and enables Meter to deliver products that are not just powerful, but also intuitive and user-friendly.

Today, Meter takes another step forward in its mission to deliver excellent products and services, with a product that we think will fundamentally shift the way we interact with and manage networks – Meter Command.

Command is a generative UI that enables IT and Networking teams to query their network, take action, and create custom software fit to their specific needs – all in natural language.

It combines the precision of the CLI with the visual intuitiveness of dashboards and adds a layer of natural language interaction. This allows users to query their network, make changes, and create interactive software. Unlike traditional dashboards, Command dynamically generates custom software interfaces and comprehensive dashboards in response to queries, providing a truly adaptive and personalized management experience. Whether a user is a seasoned network professional or new to IT, Command adapts to their level of expertise, making complex tasks simpler and routine operations more efficient.

Meter trained models on its hardware, architecture, software, and indexing for three core design principles to ensure Command is as reliable and intuitive as it is fast: accuracy, speed, and usability.

Your network. At your command.

Command offers a flexible canvas for arranging network components, curated dashboards for saving key metrics and status checks, and a mobile-friendly chat interface for troubleshooting on the go. The system is purpose-built for team-based network management and enables easy sharing and collaboration.

In practice, teams can leverage Command to generate real-time virtualized hardware on the fly, troubleshoot issues, scale network configurations, create custom, interactive dashboards, and so much more – all in natural language.

Simply make an ask –– “Create a new captive portal that asks you to comply with terms and conditions of my guest network” –– and Command will generate software with real-time data needed to surface metrics, fix issues, and take action to most reliably answer your query – at the speed of searching on the web.

Command was built with security at its core to protect critical network data. Each customer’s data plane is inaccessible to Meter and by extension, Command.

Network as a Service, on your own terms

Meter is committed to delivering excellent products and services that empower IT and Networking teams to keep their organizations online and productive. Command is no different – it intuitively understands your needs and creates custom software solutions on the fly, that are fit just for you.

As with all Meter hardware and software upgrades, Command will be available on all current and future Meter Networks at no additional cost this fall.

Users are being onboarded today. Discover how you can leverage Command at Meter’s upcoming webinar on September 11, 2024. Register now.

Meter provides internet infrastructure for businesses. Founded in 2015 by two brothers, Sunil and Anil Varanasi, Meter builds enterprise-grade networks that are faster, more accessible, and more secure. The company built the entire connectivity stack from the ground up, providing the hardware, software, and operations needed for any organization to seamlessly run on a reliable and modern network. Today, hundreds of customers trust Meter to run their networks.
