Over the past two decades, no vendor has been more important to application performance than F5 Networks. The application delivery controller (ADC), F5’s core product, sits between the applications and the networks and ensures the right optimization and security services are applied. The net result is applications that perform better and data that is more secure.
F5 has been the dominant vendor in this space for decades and currently has about 50 percent market share, including over 90 percent of the Fortune 500. Over the years, other vendors have tried to take the market from F5, including Juniper, Riverbed, Brocade, and the mighty Cisco, but none could match F5’s innovation, and all fell by the wayside. The only other vendor with double-digit share is Citrix, which is more of a niche ADC supplier.
